#07 What you can learn about circular economy and resource efficiency from a 5,000-year-old industry

Christian Underwood in conversation with RA Max Schumacher, Managing Director of the German Foundry Industry Association (BDG)

In this episode, we talk to Max Schumacher about how to align a 5,000-year-old industry with a sustainable future, why foundrymen are considered pioneers of the circular economy, and why the energy turnaround can only succeed with castings from Germany's roughly 600 medium-sized foundries.

At the latest since the climate debate, society's acceptance of energy-intensive industries has continued to decline and the "operating license", also for the foundry industry, is threatening to expire. At the same time, the focus has always been on recycling management and resource efficiency through innovative processes. For this reason, the BDG has launched a comprehensive strategic program for the future and would like to continue working on a sustainable future with the approximately 600 foundries, which are mainly medium-sized, and to seek public dialog.

In our new episode of HIKS "Back to the Future", you can find out how an association can master such a feat even in times of Corona and massive declines in sales.
