Detailed episode description:
Finally, the time has come! Our book "Hope is not a strategy" will be released on November 23, 2022. In this post, you'll learn why it's a different kind of strategy book, why it's unprecedented, and why it's a must-have if you're into strategy or interested in it.
Who is our book "Hope is not a strategy" for?
The book is intended for all those who
- interested in strategy
- Make strategy
- think strategically
- want to act strategically.
It is aimed at people in corporations, medium-sized companies and even start-ups. Because the topic of strategy affects everyone.
What added value does the "Hope is not a strategy" book provide you?
It is especially important to us to give you a book that you don't just read, but that puts you directly into practice.
We don't leave you alone with the theory. You get the bundled experience and practical knowledge of us, Christian and Jürgen. We have thought about how we can make strategy applicable for you without you losing the desire to really implement it after reading.
"Hope is not a strategy" is not a theory book, but a work book. Because implementation can only take place if you are willing to work. The book makes it as easy as possible for you to get started with strategy.
In addition to the book, there is also an ingenious software that makes the strategy process even easier for you and motivates you to implement it. But more about that in a moment.
The StrategyFrame - what exactly is it and how can it revolutionize your business?
Many CEOs and managing directors need a strategic framework. We have translated this into English and called it the StrategyFrame.
It gives you confidence and maps strategy graphically so that you understand what strategy actually is.
The strategy process has three basic elements:
- Strategy formulation
- Strategy implementation
- Evaluation of results.
But what do the three points mean in practice? What questions can you ask yourself? Which topics need to be addressed, when and how?
The StrategyFrame brings the strategy process into a logically structured flow. It is important to understand that it is not a linear process, which is often forgotten in implementation. Through the StrategyFrame you always get back to reflecting where you are at the moment and whether deviations have taken place because the environment has changed.
The 8 steps of the StrategyFrame workflow
Specifically, the StrategyFrame workflow is divided into 8 steps:
Strategy development:- Plan
- Analyze
- Focus and make decisions in the context of a strategy workshop
- Adapting the organization to the new model
- Cascading (early involvement of those responsible for the strategy process)
- Transforming (communicating the change to the organization, making goals as well as exact transformation understandable and clear).
- Experimentation (execution is always an experiment, as companies never operate alone in a market, but face competition).
- Adjust (adapt to changes)
Our book helps you establish routines in this workflow and not fall into a kind of controlling your strategy, but rather adjust the steps along the way in a meaningful way.
"Hope is not a strategy": workbook and source of inspiration
If there are important points in the book that you should work on specifically, guiding questions and enough space to write will support you in implementing and deepening the work process.
Developing a routine for your strategy is critical. The book reminds you to ask your guiding questions at the right time so you don't get bogged down.
The 8-step workflow is not linear, but you can delve into exactly the step that is relevant to you.
The perfect complement to the book: the StrategyFrame software
The perfect complement to the book is the StrategyFrame software, which follows the workflow steps in the book. It provides you with supporting knowledge, illustrates the individual steps even more precisely, and provides templates for you to fill out so that you can edit the StrategyFrame directly.
The digital platform offers you the opportunity to work on your strategy alone or in a team - without Excel or PowerPoint.
Hope is not a strategy - a look behind the scenes of book writing
The book is 300 pages long. The deadlines set by the publisher helped us a lot to stay focused. It was our goal to be at a book fair. So we dedicated our summer this year to the book and spent nights finishing it.
We succeeded! We are very proud and happy about it. The English translation has already begun and is scheduled to be published in May 2023.
Our thanks go to our publisher, our editor Patrick Ludwig and Eva Zimmermann, who translated our ideas into visuals with graphics.
